The World Has a Short Memory
From the White Paper to “Free Palestine” — Why History Still Matters
There is something that worries me more than any political argument:
The world has a very short memory.
People forget quickly.
They forget who did what, when it happened, why it happened, and what came before the event they are watching on their phone today.
And when history disappears, people can end up judging an entire nation based on one photograph, one video, one slogan, or one political narrative.
This is part of how modern anti-Israel sentiment can develop.
Not always because people know too much.
Sometimes because they know too little.
Start Before 1948
Anyone who wants to understand the Israeli-Arab conflict should know what happened before the establishment of Israel.
In 1939, Britain issued the White Paper and severely restricted Jewish immigration to Mandatory Palestine, at precisely the time when European Jews were facing an approaching catastrophe.
Then came the Holocaust.
Six million Jews were murdered.
Hundreds of thousands survived the war as displaced people and refugees.
And even after the Holocaust, Britain continued to restrict Jewish immigration to Palestine.
Jewish refugees were intercepted and sent to detention camps in Cyprus.
The story of the Exodus 1947 became a symbol of Holocaust survivors trying to reach the land where they hoped to rebuild their lives — and being stopped by the British authorities.
These are not myths.
They are documented chapters of history.
But there is another chapter that is far less familiar to the public today.
The Mufti of Jerusalem and Hitler
On November 28, 1941, Haj Amin al-Husseini, the Mufti of Jerusalem and one of the most prominent Arab leaders of the period, met Adolf Hitler in Berlin.
This is not a rumor.
It is documented in historical archives, including the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.
Al-Husseini sought German support against the Jewish national home in Palestine. During the war, he collabora
