✨ Getting Into Bowdoin: How One Decision Can Completely Change Your Application In the recent interview, together with Alpamis Makhmutov, we explored how to build extracurriculars that genuinely reflect your personality, values, and long-term goals. This week, we continue the conversation with Abrorbek Samijonov, an incoming student at Bowdoin College who received a $388,000 scholarship and was also admitted to Carnegie Mellon University Qatar and the University of Toronto. In Episode XII of the Freshman Getting In series, we'll discuss how one bold decision—leaving a Presidential School to become a FLEX alumnus—completely transformed Abrorbek's trajectory and became a defining part of his application. We'll also explore how he built ScholarConnect, attended the Babson Summer Study program, approached liberal arts colleges, and crafted an application that reflected both his academic interests and long-term vision. Join us for an inside look at the decisions, experiences, and mindset that helped Abrorbek earn admission to some of the world's most selective universities. 📅 Friday, August 14th, 7PM (UTC +5) 📲 Get the event link via @FreshmanAcademy_Bot Freshman Alumni Network members will receive a separate link via the official Alumni Channel. @freshmanblog

I can't believe my professor for Comp Sci used Gemini to make slides. He was projecting his screen and we saw lines of codes in code editor. Some dude asked you coded the slides and he affirmed, bragging in a way. I am not sure if I was the only one who could tell he did not code it but made Gemini do it. It was obvious when I saw there were some typos and commas in the wrong places in problem sets. Those mistakes are like the signature of Gemini and Claude. But it's fair at the same time. The presentation was really good, with intricate details and pictures. He must have really good prompting skills and he couldn't do it this good on his own. But at the same time, some of those students who praised the professor for "coding the slides" pay $100k. So should we normalize using AI in such formal places?

In a conversation, I think the most boring thing you can do is to agree. Affirmation is valuable as long as you express your perception of the idea or the argument and elaborate on it. But for me, disagreement is always more interesting as one side offers a counter argument that makes everyone dive deeper into the matter. Expecting such heated conversations, I was excited for my Writing Seminar class, which is required. But it turns out that the professor only individually asks students for questions, quotes and ideas, and ends up saying different fancy affirmations whatever bs you say. I am thinking of suggesting Professor to create room for conversations between students.

Hey Everyone We've been working on an AP exam prep app for the past 3-4 months, called AbiSabi. It has 24 AP subjects and over 5,000 practice questions right now. There's an AI tutor for when you're stuck on something, timed practice that matches the real exam format, and it can grade handwritten free-response answers — you write on paper, take a photo, it scores it against the actual rubric. It's still in testing and there are bugs. If you're taking an AP exam this year, or know someone who is, I'd appreciate you trying it and telling me what doesn't work. abisabi.com

Preparing for APs was one of the most stressful periods of my high school life. Extracurriculars, coursework, research, sports and by spring, I was going to bed at 2 AM and waking up at 6 AM every day just to keep up. What frustrated me most was that I often knew how to solve the problems, but still lost points on FRQs because I didn't show the right work or use the specific terms the rubric wanted. I remember genuinely wishing there was something that could just teach me how to answer AP questions, not only whether my answer was right or wrong. So we decided to build it. We made a platform with AP practice questions and an AI Free Response coach that helps you understand what the rubric wants and where you're losing points. You can self-study or use it with a classroom. It's still far from perfect, so if you're preparing for APs or teaching them, I'd really appreciate you trying it out and telling us what sucks, what's missing, or what we should change. abisabi.com

My essay was about Home and going Away. After reading a story and writing an essay on it, I don't think they simply mean leaving where you were raised. For me, it became even more complex term that I just didn't bother to care during the past years. Does "home" mean a physical place or company? Is it singular or can be multiple places? I read my peers' essays and everyone has a unique definition. Someone is from LA, another person from Kansas. But my essay as an international will be interesting for them to read, I think. I can't wait to hear their thoughts on mine.

This is not a course or anything. It's a channel where you can find awesome opportunities that you don't find somewhere else. I would highly recommend joining this channel to expand your scholarship radar. What if you find a program you never heard of, apply, get accepted and change your life forever. You never know, and joining is free. So I'd say use it.

the lifestyle of the Amish community seems anti-American as they refuse to use man-made tools. However, their very existence is a symbol of freedom in America, a proof that you have freedom over your lifestyle and decisions.
