When you are served with the PIP document, it's almost guaranteed a done deal. There are some earlier signs that you should watch out for. 1) Situation: You mention you are overloaded with stuff Ideal answer: Let's work through it, maybe deprioritize some stuff and get the most important done Bad boss: yeah unfortunately the team is overloaded, please get it done (shows indifference, tells you to figure it out) 2) Situation: You mention the task is complex and needs more time Ideal answer: Please explain to me how it is complex and whether there is anything I can do to help (shows support) Bad boss: look, I know it's hard, but do it all (indifference) 3) Situation: You are escalating on an issue that someone will escalate on you Ideal answer: Thanks for the heads up. Tell me where you messed up and where the other one messed up. Let's figure out how this doesn't happen again. Bad boss: what the hell did you do? (only takes the other person's side) 4) Situation: Lots of roles being randomly opened that are too similar to your job in LCOL Ideal answer: (?? hoping there is a good reason) Bad boss: will lie to your face I hope it helps people out there. Can’t related to my friends anymore M2Kzs @ Microsoft As I climb the corporate ladder, I feel like I’m losing friends. Is this normal? I suppose the income disparity also plays a huge part but the priorities and values in my life are also different compared to theirs so I feel like I don’t fit in. Anyone else feels this way? Just bought a house Ndtj13 @ Meta $2.2m, 20% down, 5.875% rate, monthly payment $13k $300k cash after closing + well-funded retirement accounts, no other investments $250k base+bonus, $580k TC, 3yoe+PhD. Spouse doesn’t work so this is household TC. Can rent out ADU for $2500/month E5, cliff will hit in 2027 and take TC down to $480k assuming no promo by then If shit hits the fan then rich mommy will give me money, but I want to maintain my pride and not need it @blind_feed

Looking for a Chill Job asatya_ @ Amazon Is there a company where I can chill, and coast by working ~20 hrs a week or less? I’ve reached a point where my side gig of freelance development is earning ~300k or so every year, with very little effort (I outsource most dev work to guys in India, costs me peanuts). I know 300k isn’t a lot but my wife works at Meta so we have a good HHTC. I’m burnt out at my current job (also Meta) too. I want to still have some job so that I have insurance, and a backup option to stay relevant in the job market. Also good to have a job if my wife is laid off or something. I’m okay to go as low as 200k if I can coast and the job is stress-free. Thoughts? What companies do folks recommend? TC 450k, YoE 5 @blind_feed
