Ethereum plans to protect the network from quantum threats by December 2029
Developers from the Ethereum Foundation have published a list of 62 proposals (EIPs) for the future Hegotá upgrade and set a goal to protect the network from the quantum threat by December 2029.
Two changes have been designated as mandatory. The first, FOCIL (EIP-7805), is intended to prevent large block builders from censoring individual transactions.
The second, Frame Transactions (EIP-8141), will add account abstraction to Ethereum. Wallets will be able to use their own signature schemes, pay fees on behalf of users, and combine multiple actions into a single transaction without external services.
The Hegotá upgrade itself will not yet implement quantum protection, but the EF describes it as a stage upon which the schedule for subsequent hard forks depends.
