Being 100 km downwind of Thyspunt, Nelson Mandela Bay is home to 1.4 million souls who may have to evacuate somewhere in case of a serious incident. That's apart from Oyster Bay, St Francis, Humansdorp, Jeffrey's Bay, Hankey and Patensie. The Wild Coast is a much better bet in terms of population density.

That is the reason why this whole thing to me, is not only of national importance, but also of international importance. Because if things go bad then the whole Southern Hemisphere could face serious problems. People should not get angry nor upset when other people have grave concerns. The fact of the matter is we have people in this country who have an incredibly poor track record of honesty, integrity, decency, municipal management, infrastructure maintenance, etc. etc. There are literally millions upon millions of articles, investigative reports, etc. etc. that proves a deep mindset for dishonesty, criminality, self-enrichment, etc. etc.

A 3rd world mediocrity only thinks about one generation, and they themselves in particular in it. Its up to every man to raise his voice somehow, and for organisations like Dear SA to facilitate opposition. Public channels at local level are as blocked as the sewers and stormwater systems. I wonder if insurance companies are happy or not.

🟢 SAY GOODBYE TO SPAM CALLS IN SOUTH AFRICA WITH A BIG CATCH FOR POLITICAL PARTIES AND CHARITIES The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has gazetted draft guidelines for the new national consumer opt-out registry for public comment. The document offers practical guidelines for companies to follow, as the NCC prepares to launch its opt-out registry to protect consumers from unsolicited marketing. The legal framework governing the establishment and operation of the opt-out registry is premised on section 11 of the CPA. This section provides that every person has a right to privacy and to avoid or pre-emptively block any approach or communication that is primarily for the purpose of direct marketing. ⭕️ Let us know your views in the comments on Telegram https://t.me/dearsafrica ⭕️ Follow the Dear South Africa campaigns on our website dearsouthafrica.co.za More on this here... https://businesstech.co.za/news/government/877986/say-goodbye-to-spam-calls-in-south-africa-with-a-big-catch-for-political-parties-and-charities/

Many times I baught something somewhere, or swiped a card here and there, and then in a matter of minutes, I'll get an sms advertisement, or a cold call, etc. from someone. I always wonder how that is possible.

They always find. A way. I got true caller and if the number isn't on my phone it goes immediately to spam

Nuclear power is vital for this country, to keep the grid stable, and produce base load. Renewable, green energy, can never sustain a country. Desmond Barnardo, an energy expert, who worked for eskom, has explained all the pros and cons, regarding nuclear.
  1. S
I humbly agree. We need a nuclear power station. But with respect, you are missing my point. Please read my original comment again. My point was, that we cannot entrust the long term management of a nuclear facility in the hands of people who have an incredibly poor track record of maintenance and a good track record of fraud and looting.
    1. D
I get your point, however, eskom should be left to run themselves, without interference from the gutterment. They have done a good job with madusi. I know that the minister of electricity and cyril are at loggerheads, regarding this interference.

I support this. Nuclear is cleanest and safest and cheapest form of power generation. Go for it. We should have let Jacob Zuma during his administration take up Russia's offer of cooperation and funding to build them. Instead we got the whole Gupta state capture mess.
  1. J
I agree ... partially. We should have done this 20 years ago buuuut... Zuma in charge with Russian backing???
    1. S
To me a Russian nuclear facility per se is not the issue. The Russians build third generation nuclear power stations that are safe and reliable. And they have over decades built an entire state and private infrastructure to sustain and maintain nuclear facilities. They even have the technology to build a nuclear spaceship if they wanted to. The problem is not Russia, or any other country for that matter. The problem is right here at home. In our own country. As mentioned in my original comment. We will essentially be sitting with people who will govern nuclear facility state and semi-state apparatuses and infrastructure, who loot and destroy entire municipal funds and infrastructure. We even have examples of where these political connected people, bankrupted and looted entire vast public hospital facilities and networks. Who knows how many peoples' health were seriously effected by those people. When it comes too looting and theft, they have no morals nor care for fellow human beings. And now? Now people want to entrust the maintenance of a nuclear facility in the hands of people like this.
        1. S
Unit 1 was synchronized to the grid in 1984. Unit 2, in 1985. Eskom manages and operates it on a day to day basis. They rely heavily on global nuclear engineering firms and contractors for maintenance and safety compliance. For example, Framatome, the original designers and builders of the pressurized water reactors, who still supplies them with nuclear fuel components, do upgrades and replacements of generators, etc. Then there was WEC. Westinghouse Electric Company who provided technical support. Then they regularly contract other people to assist with maintenance, etc.
        2. S
I am not against a nuclear power station. Please be so kind as to read my original comment again. I have fears about the involvement of politicians, looters, criminals, fraudsters, etc. in the construction and maintenance of a NEW nuclear power facility. This to me is not the same question as asking "Who has been running Koeberg for the last 30 years?" We all know who has been doing that. It's general knowledge. Those contractors have been part of the Koeberg deal for generations. Now, its different. In this day and age, a host of different questions need to be asked. How will those people who defrauded municipalities, or who have criminal records and still work in government, or who were involved in the looting of state funds and departments, or who defrauded hospitals, or who form part of organized crime syndicates in government structures, etc., etc., be involved in the NEW nuclear facility? We all know they will be there. So, how exactly will they be involved and what are they supposed to do?
  2. S
I humbly agree. Nuclear power is safe and clean. Howerver, kindly revisit history. As you would see from the records, our country was not in a financial position to carry the cost of the construction of a nuclear facility. Not through the cooperation of Russia, France, the UK, nor anybody. We would have been left indebted for generations to come.

Kasili and Madupe ran many billions over budget, and consistently missed project deadlines. Maybe we shouldn't believe the west's Russia phobic biased reporting given Russia and China have out played the west regarding global economics.
      1. S
Please be so kind as to read my comments again. It's got absolutely nothing to do with Russo phobia, or China phobia, or American phobia, or British phobia or whatever whoever phobia. Those countries have nuclear capabilities of 70 years plus. It's got everything to do with the people in South Africa. How difficult is it for people to understand that a new nuclear facility will be left in the hands of people who have a severe bad track record of honesty, reliability, human decency, etc. etc.

They lost me at state-run. Just more corruption, and the cadres simply won't follow the rules.

I think the sea water is too warm for effective cooling. Might have to consider a site on the west coast south of nam border

At last! Now they are starting to agree that solar and wind will never be the answer of a government. Solar and wind is good and well for our poor souls at home, but for economic growth, we NEED BASE LOAD POWER! Good for them to have at least the savvy to try!

Not Thyspunt. Go north of Koeberg, or Wild Coast.
