Transport Minister Barbara Creecy gazetted a proposal to change the validity period of driving licences in South Africa from 5 years to 10 years on 17 August 2026. A recent blog post from Codera Analytics revealed that since 2008, Eskom’s aggregate standard tariffs have increased by 14.5% annually. In a new policy brief published this week, the SAHRC took aim at the theft and trafficking of copper cables and scrap metal from public infrastructure, calling it a human rights crisis.
