Well, I use exoplayer. I don't experience any lag with any content. The download option, in my opinion, is rubbish. For me, the application is currently top-notch, and the initial loading time is normal for exoplayer; it loads buffers ahead of schedule. I don't see any bugs in what you're describing. Do you use MP4 or MKV? MP4 often causes problems with everything.

No plans for now for pre-download full file. I find it pointless. EchoGram's all idea is to stream. I'm working on stabilizing VLC. It's a different architecture than Exoplayer so it's a bit harder to control everything. Also logs show this issue happens "only" to ~450 users which is a low percentage of my active user base. Anyway, I've rewritten the VLC engine but only after real user tests I'll know if this issue is fully fixed. Exoplayer - your feedback is the first time I hear it takes that long to load.. what formats are you playing?

exoplayer doesn't convert the file when you play it.. i'm not sure what you're experiencing with it. maybe share a video in private that takes long to start and i'll try to reproduce and see the logs.

Yes, that happens to me too, but it doesn't take long. It's identifying the container and loading the buffer at that moment. If you notice while it's loading and you go to the subtitles section, they don't exist until the file is loaded into memory; that's why it takes longer. Although my files are 4 GB in MKV format, and it doesn't take 30 seconds like you say. It does take a while, but only about 10-15 seconds at most.

That's accurate. If it's an mp4 it looks for the moov atom that contains the meta data. Modern mp4 usually have it at the beginning of the file but some mp4 and Avi have it at the end. When it's at the end of the file, it takes longer. Mkv doesn't have this so it should be faster than mp4 on any player

It's much easier to mark forced audio in tracks and names in an MKV file than in an MP4. In fact, MP4 accepts either HDR or Dolby Vision, while MKV offers a hybrid format, allowing you to include both layers in the file.

Hi, if you are currently working with TMDB, you may have already taken a look at the Streamflix app: https://github.com/streamflix-reborn/streamflix As far as I know, the app also uses TMDB, and its overall design and presentation are really well done. It could be an interesting source of inspiration for your project. Although the app is not available on the Play Store, it is actively maintained and receives internal updates. I wish you a great start into the new year and continued success with your project.
