📰 What happened in mining last week EMCD Digest | September 14–20, 2026 ♦️ Bitcoin mining difficulty rose 4.16% to 132.76T The September 19 retarget lifted Bitcoin mining difficulty from 127.45T to 132.76T at block 967,680. Bitcoin was trading around $81,000 on September 20, helping offset part of the pressure that higher difficulty puts on dollar-denominated mining revenue. Less efficient fleets and miners paying higher power prices remain the most exposed as margins tighten.  ♦️ CoinShares: listed miners’ average cash cost ran 29% above Bitcoin’s quarter-end price The weighted average ex-tax cash cost to produce one BTC among listed miners was about $75,500 in Q2, against a $58,400 quarter-end price. Results diverged sharply: ABTC, Bitdeer, HIVE and IREN mined below their realised prices, CleanSpark and Riot sat near breakeven, while MARA’s $86,126 cash cost overshot its $70,315 realised revenue by roughly $15,800 per coin. Hashprice bottomed at $27.7 per PH/s/day in June. Core Scientific paid Block $41.9M to cancel about 15 EH/s of 3nm chip deliveries, and at least 35 EH/s is scheduled to leave the listed cohort. ♦️ Bitdeer mined 1,310 BTC in August but ended the month holding 61 Output rose 249% year over year from 375 BTC, with self-mining hashrate at 79.9 EH/s against 30.0 EH/s a year earlier — and CoinShares puts Bitdeer among the miners producing below their realised price in Q2. The treasury moved the other way: 61 BTC at month end versus 257 in July. Its AI cloud arm runs 4,328 GPUs at 92% utilisation for roughly $86M in annualised recurring revenue, plus a non-binding LOI for an initial 30 MW AI data center in Bhutan. ♦️ Ethiopia cut miners’ power supply by 77% The state utility reduced deliveries to 23% of contracted volumes after El Niño cut reservoir inflows by 20%, prioritising households and manufacturers. The cuts came in stages — 75%, then 50%, then 23%. Miners had supplied 35% of the utility’s revenue last fiscal year and consumed almost a thi

📰 What happened in mining last week EMCD Digest | September 21–27, 2026 ♦️ Bitcoin crossed JPMorgan’s estimated production cost for the first time in 280 days Bitcoin’s rally pushed it above the roughly $85,000 level JPMorgan estimates as the average cost of producing one BTC — the first time in 280 days. Analysts led by Nikolaos Panigirtzoglou call production cost a soft floor and said a sustained move above it could reduce the risk of forced miner selling. The previous comparable stretch came in 2018, when Bitcoin spent about 224 days below estimated production cost. ♦️ Bitcoin’s seven-day average hashrate slipped to a three-week low The seven-day average fell to 915.8 EH/s on September 26, its lowest since around September 3. Miner reserves declined by 1,530 BTC over the week to 1,192,766 BTC, while the Puell Multiple rose 0.24 to 1.13 — the daily USD value of newly issued Bitcoin was above its one-year average. A short-term decline is not proof of shutdowns: the metric also moves with block timing, power conditions and changes in active equipment. ♦️ Texas paused new state permits for data centers pending grid and water audits Governor Greg Abbott directed Texas regulators to halt permits sought by data center projects until ERCOT and the Texas Water Development Board complete their audits. TCEQ must report on compliance by October 19, while the audits themselves have no fixed completion date. The directive refers broadly to data centers rather than specifically to crypto mining, so its impact on mining projects will depend on how individual sites are classified. ♦️ PowerCompute expects nearly 39% more hashrate per replacement machine PowerCompute is replacing older S19-class machines averaging 95 TH/s at roughly 34 J/TH with S19 XPs averaging 132 TH/s at about 21.5 J/TH, while drawing comparable power. The company expects to install 1,000 units by the end of September and has another 940 on order for October, at a total cost of about $400,000. Once both bat

Which PoW coins are leading miner activity this September? ⛏️ By payouts on EMCD Mining Pool, the top mining routes this month have been: 1️⃣ BTC 2️⃣ DOGE + LTC 3️⃣ BCH A few market signals behind them: ♦️ BTC remains around the 1 ZH/s level. Bitcoin’s Sep 19 difficulty adjustment added 4.16%, so the same hashrate now competes at a higher network difficulty. ♦️ DOGE + LTC: activity across the merge-mined Scrypt pair remains high. DOGE network hashrate is up about 11% over the last 30 days, while LTC difficulty is around 7.5% higher — a more competitive Scrypt environment than a month ago. ♦️ BCH has been much more volatile: network hashrate moved between roughly 2.5 and 5.7 EH/s at different points in September, with mining conditions shifting sharply within the month. What are you watching most closely in the PoW market right now? 🏭 Mine with EMCD Mining Pool 🔳 Community / Website / EMCD App / Twitter / Support

📰 What happened in mining last week EMCD Digest | September 28 – October 4, 2026 ♦️ September brought miners $1.12 billion, the best month since January  The October 3 retarget cut difficulty by just 0.03%, to 132.72T at block 969,696 — the smallest move of 2026, so the stronger month was not clawed back by the network. January remains the high at $1.15 billion. Across 2026 difficulty has seen eight increases and eleven decreases for a net decline of 11.96%. ♦️ Hashprice fell 3.8% while hashrate edged up  Hashprice slipped 3.8% to $39.87 per PH/s/day while the seven-day average hashrate rose 0.6% to 952 EH/s. At that level the gap between hardware generations decides the outcome: machines under 14 J/TH earn about $138 of gross revenue per MWh consumed, against roughly $52 for 25–38 J/TH models. ♦️ Gemini switched its Zcash node ahead of the move to 25-second blocks  On September 30 Gemini moved its Zcash infrastructure from Zebra to Zakura, which synced in just over six hours against nearly a day. The trigger is NU7, which cuts block spacing from 75 seconds to 25 and divides the reward per block by three so issuance stays on schedule. Fees change too: roughly 60% would be held out of circulation instead of paid to miners. November 5 is a target, not a confirmed date. ♦️ Public miners booked $1.1 billion in write-downs in the first half  Twelve public miners recorded about $1.1 billion in asset impairments and held-for-sale markdowns in the first half of 2026, per TheEnergyMag, with IREN and Core Scientific accounting for nearly 89% and IREN alone at roughly $695 million. Not all of it is the AI pivot: Core Scientific attributed its own impairment to deteriorating mining economics. Miner Weekly separately puts the hashrate taken offline at 75 EH/s — about $1.5 billion of hardware at an assumed $20 per TH. ♦️ Kazakhstan wants to run mining on associated petroleum gas  Kazakhstan is building a framework to run mining on associated petroleum gas now flared at the w

The secret to nine years in mining: a system 🏆 CryptoDaily has named Michael Jerlis, Founder & CEO of EMCD, its top pick for Entrepreneurship in the CryptoDaily Individual Awards 2026. Jerlis solves every business problem the same way — systematically, not reactively. — CryptoDaily That approach has carried EMCD through every halving and crypto winter since 2017, with more than 30,000 $BTC mined through the pool along the way. Behind every one of those coins is hashrate from miners who trust EMCD. Thank you for mining with us all these years ❤️ 🔥 — to congratulate Michael 🔳 Community / Website / EMCD App / Twitter / Support
