Душа is one of reasons why I am learning Russian while knowing I will likely never visit the country. The depth of its meaning and how it was depicted in movie like 1972 The Dawns Here are Quiet (А зори здесь тихие), the countless literatures, and how Russians know some silence is to be inhabited instead being filled... make me thinking: oh, these are people I wanted to get to know. And at the same time, I know I do not fully understands it yet.
In my language (bahasa Indonesia), we have the word jiwa /ji·wa/ which have multiple complicated meanings just like Душа:
1. a human soul that allows someone to be alive.
2. the whole internal life of a human (feelings, thinking, wishing, and so on).
3. Someone or something that load-bearing, giving people around them/it power and/or aspiration.
4. true meaning inside words, contracts, and so on.
5. a loved one.
6. people (on census).
7. the willpower for a living being to continue surviving.
8. magic focus.

Also, weren't the word origin was дыхание (breath) from Slavic paganism, then Christian Orthodox make it bigger into the definition of soul according to Christianity / Greek theological concept (psyche). And then the modern Russian soul (Загадочная русская душа) were popularized by 19th century writers like Leo Tolstoy and Fyodor Dostoevsky?

By the way, the 2015 version of «А зори здесь тихие...» is also very powerful; and the main theme by Любэ (and others) is both emotional and memorable. Well, at least I like it 😁

Oh, not better than the 1972 movie.
But it is a film well done, with a modern pace, more attuned to the tastes or preferences of younger audiences.
I did not see much of an emphasis on romantic interest over his sense of duty as well as his increasing caring for the girls, though.
