Hi all. I've been using something I built for myself and figured I'd open it up in case it's useful to anyone else.
I do automation and electrical work on my own, mostly PLCs and the operator screens that go with them. I got tired of redrawing the same symbols on every job — the motor, the valve, the knife gate — and then doing it all again when the next plant used a different HMI brand.
So I made an editor for it: hmilibrary.com/symbol-builder
You build the symbol from shapes, add the tag and instrument bubbles if you need them, and export it as PNG or SVG with a transparent background.
The bit that saves me the most time: it exports each equipment state as its own file — stopped, starting, running, no feedback, fault — numbered, with whatever names you give them. Ready to drop into a Weintek multi-state lamp, or the equivalent object in WinCC or Ignition, instead of building them one at a time.
Runs in the browser, nothing to install, and you don't need an account to draw.
One heads-up: it's a precision editor, so open it on a desktop. It won't work properly on a phone.
If you try it and something doesn't match how you actually work, tell me and I'll change it.

Hi all. I'm Pau, a freelance automation technician from Spain. A few weeks ago I opened up an HMI symbol editor I had built for myself, tired of redrawing the same motor, the same valve and the same slide gate on every screen and every HMI brand: http://hmilibrary.com/symbol-builder
How it works: you draw the symbol in the browser and export it as PNG or SVG with a transparent background. It gives you every state as a separate file (stopped, running, no feedback, fault...), numbered and named the way you want, ready for a Weintek multi-state lamp or a WinCC multi-lamp. Nothing to install, and no account needed to draw.
What's new:
· Drafts are saved to the cloud, so you pick up the screen where you left it
· You can publish your symbols and use other people's: there's now a community library, with about 150 people signed up
And this week's news: the Studio plan, with unlimited downloads and packs for Weintek, WinCC and Ignition, can be tried free for 3 days. Plenty of time to get a whole screen out.
For this group I've also set up a code: HMI. Enter it under "Add promotion code" when you start the trial and Studio stays at €29/month instead of €49, for as long as you keep it. Only for people here, I'm not putting it on the website.
What I'd really ask: if you have ten minutes, go in, draw the symbol you need for whatever project is on your desk right now, and publish it. Every symbol someone uploads is one the next person doesn't have to draw, and I'd like the library to fill up with things made by people who build real screens, not just me. And if something breaks or is missing, tell me: that feedback helps me more than anything right now.
Open it on a computer: it doesn't work well on a phone.
Thanks, and I promise not to write again until there's something worth it.
