😒 But Mark Gurman isn't inspired
📱 He says we shouldn't bother upgrading to the iPhone 18 Pro if you're already on the previous model. Social media is flooded with glowing reviews from tech bloggers right now, but a lot of that "excitement" is reportedly just paid promo dressed up as organic content — deals struck in exchange for early units, not real enthusiasm.
🤷♂️ He doesn't spell out exactly what's underwhelming about the 18 Pro itself. Probably because the upgrades are just that minor.

🔗 Google made a "MacBook" for Android and called it... Googlebook
📰 Google teamed up with Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo to ship the thing Android has been missing for a decade: a real ecosystem partner for your phone = their answer to iPhone + MacBook.
📱 Apple: iPhone + MacBook, Handoff, AirDrop, Universal Control
📱 Google: Android + Googlebook, Continue On, Files, Cast My Apps
Same idea, just with Gemini instead of Siri.
• One standout detail is a glowing strip on the chassis called Glowbar. Right now it only shows battery level, but Google's open-sourcing it for devs, so expect custom indicators from enthusiasts pretty quickly.
• So Android finally gets its own little "macOS moment." The real question is whether the partners can hold a consistent quality bar the way Apple does, or whether this turns into the usual mess — a dozen similar-but-different laptops.
📅 On shelves starting October 4.

👂 First detailed leaks on the @iPhone 20 Pro have surfaced
Even smaller Dynamic Island and a "borderless" display.
📰 Apple is repotedly testing a quad-curved design — where all four edges of the screen are curved. The result is a smooth effect that makes it look like there are no bezels at all.
📏 The displays themselves will grow too: 6.41 inches for the Pro and 6.96 inches for the Pro Max. This year's current models sit at 6.27 and 6.86 inches respectively.

🏋️♀️ Apple is working on a screenless fitness tracker
📰 According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple has been exploring the idea for several months and is now developing prototypes. The prototypes reportedly consist of a thin fabric band and a sensor-equipped computing module, with no screen in sight – the key difference from the display-driven Apple Watch.
• The move comes as competitors such as Whoop and smart ring maker Oura are growing quickly, with millions of users each, prompting Apple to reconsider its approach to health and fitness tracking. Notably, Oura filed for an IPO this month, and Whoop is now valued at about $10 billion.
• The project is currently in the "technology investigation" phase, and it's reportedly backed by Apple executives Tim Cook and Eddy Cue, with engineers from the Vision hardware team involved in development.
📆 Apple hasn't decided whether to release the product, and if it moves forward, it likely wouldn't launch until at least 2028.

😏 Not as scratch-resistant as we'd think
The difference between titanium and aluminum, visualized.
🥺 Turns out the new iPhone 18 Pro Max is pretty prone to scratches. Especially noticeable on the burgundy finish.
🔎 One tech guy put it side by side with his iPhone 15 Pro Max, which he's been using daily for three years. The 18 Pro Max? Only four days old.

🔋 iPhone 18 Pro Max has a battery so big that Apple had to limit it in software
🚢 The battery is over 20 Wh, which puts it above the shipping limits set by many carriers and postal services. So Apple added a "Prepare for Shipping" feature that keeps available capacity below 20 Wh.
📦 New phones ship with the limit already on, and it's removed automatically on first activation.

💸 Apple hit with a record $5.7B verdict over Taptic Engine patents
📰 A San Diego federal jury found that the Taptic Engine in iPhone and Apple Watch infringes two Taction Technology patents and awarded $5.72B, the largest US patent award to date. Taction sued in 2021.
👨⚖️ The jury found the infringement wasn't willful. Apple says the Taptic Engine is fundamentally different from Taction's technology and will appeal. It's still only a jury verdict. Post-trial motions and an appeal come next, so the amount could be cut or overturned.

🔜 Apple enters the smart home on October 13
📰 According to Gurman, Apple plans to launch several new devices:
• HomePad (J490) – smart home hub with a ~6–7" display
• HomePod mini 2 – new hardware, Siri AI support, new colors
• Apple TV 4K – A17 Pro chip or newer, Apple Intelligence, same design
• HomePod 3 – in the works, no release date yet
🐌 The launch was repeatedly delayed by Siri AI, even though Apple TV and HomePod mini have been ready for a long time.
📆 Coming later: a privacy-focused security camera and sensor (J450) that don't record video but can detect which room you're in, plus a bigger 9" HomePad with a robotic arm that rotates the screen 360°. Apple is also working with third-party makers on Siri AI-powered home devices.

🫨 John Ternus is preparing a major shake-up at Apple
📰 Bloomberg reports that Apple's new chief wants to flatten the corporate structure by cutting out layers of middle management that sit between engineering teams and top executives. The plan is still not finalized.
🔄 Ternus believes Apple needs to be faster and bolder to keep its market lead, with new devices released year-round instead of being tied to the fall and spring cycles.
🧲 That means rethinking R&D projects, production cycles, and operations. Bold experiments are expensive, so Ternus has already asked Eddy Cue and CFO Kevan Parekh to find ways to squeeze more profit out of Apple's existing services.
