Fairport Convention – What We Did on Our Holidays (1968-1969)
This record captures #Fairport_Convention at a fascinating turning point by blending 🇺🇸 #AmericanFolkRock influences with emerging 🇬🇧 #BritishfolkRock traditions, while touches of #PsychedelicRock and #ProgressiveFolk give the music a distinctly late-1960s atmosphere.
👩🏼 #Sandy_Denny’s arrival adds a beautiful, #Haunting vocal presence, while the interplay between #Acoustic instruments and #Electric guitars gives the songs both intimacy and energy. The #Traditional material feels timeless, while the #Contemporary songs retain echoes of #Bob_Dylan, #Joni_Mitchell and the American folk-rock scene.
It isn't yet the fully developed British folk-rock sound Fairport would achieve on 💽 1969 - Unhalfbricking and
💽 1969 - Liege & Lief , but that makes it especially interesting. A warm, #adventurous and #atmospheric album that documents the moment Fairport Convention began transforming American-influenced folk-rock into something unmistakably British.
