The great falling away is people who professed faith in vain. It's the ones who don't truly believe the gospel told to us by the apostle Paul. Paul warned us about the great falling away or apostasy. It is a mass rejection of the faith by those who were never really saved to begin with. The fake Christians. The Christians that think faith plus works are what keep them saved. The ones who didn't read and believe all the books in the new testament that Paul, the apostle to us, the gentiles, wrote to us. So the falling away is talking about people walking away from Christianity and churches and following false teachers. If you're truly saved and sealed by the holy Spirit, you won't fall away from the truth that saves you.

Or is it the true believers who aren’t ready ..the ones invited to the dinner but can’t come because they have other things to do or lie Lots wife looking back…they are still in the world and aren’t ready to let go?

Yeah I would agree with that. There are ALOT of 3rd soils in the last Lukewarm Church. Only the one ones who were 4th soil in Jesus parable of the dowry will stand at the end.

Earnest in verse 14 means guarantee. Gods name is on the line to KEEP you from losing your salvation if you have genuine Faith in Jesus. True believers will continue to walk with God.
