Hey that sounds really really cool! Even if it's "just a plugin" the implications of that it's huge. I have promise many people to make introductions videos of the "developing pyside" aspect, and I want to make that promise to you too. It's difficult at first, because of the details, and were to look, but believe me once you understand the basics, you are ready to either add new functionality or fix some bugs.
Also keep in mind, you are helping the project with "Reporting bugs", "Asking for a new example/tutorial", "Suggesting new ideas", etc. That's also contribution. So please, if you have any idea, or report, let's know via JIRA https://bugreports.qt.io/projects/PYSIDE
