Qt for Python (PySide/Shiboken)

Can SVG images be used instead of png or jpg? If so, I would suggest creating the image as vector and saving as svg image. Then it would scale to any size you need without becoming pixelated. I use Adobe Illustrator for that. Let me know if you need help with the image.
