I've just updated to 6.10, and now QLineEdit placeholder texts (the gray text thats shown when it is empty) don't show up at all. It still works with the multi-line text editors. Downgraded to 6.9.3, and they reappear. Looks a lot like a regression?

I just tested one of my projects and the placeholder text showed just fine.

For that level of issue, it might be an issue with Qt/C++ if any, I might recommend trying to have a little application to reproduce

Thanks for the test. I've dug a bit further, and it seems to not happen on Windows 10. Narrowed down to Linux+KDE6+Wayland. Will investigate if this is something broken here.

Via Qt Designer. And the designer binary bundled with 6.10 shows the same behavior, both in the editor, and the preview window

That doesn't make a difference. The generated setupUi() simply calls setPlaceholderText(). Doing it a second time via code doesn't change the outcome. A minimal reproduction is just a widget with a line edit, opened in Qt Designer: https://i.imgur.com/awoGAFK.png

I'd remove it completely from Qt Designer first. Then add it in code. Mixing it may cause issues. But it looks like it's a problem with Designer and the UIC compiler. Def submit a bug report.

The UIC compiler correctly emits calls to setPlaceholderText(). I've noticed that the placeholder texts show up if and only if the widget is in disabled state. Even in Qt Designer. So this is a lower-level thing. Will investigate further, but that's definitely off-topic here then.

I can not reproduce the issue on Linux, KDE6.3.6, and X11.

AI does a really awesome job with pyside6 also if you get stuck
