It seems that Anthropic has started to "dumb down" Opus 5.5: the model has dropped below 100% on NerfBench — it captures the moment when developers nerf the models. Just yesterday, Opus was performing better on the benchmark than it did at release. But today, it has experienced a significant decline for the first time. The drop is still within normal limits. Therefore, there is a possibility that Anthropic is simply freeing up resources for the upcoming launch of Fable 5.5.

A woman left to work in Antarctica after being laid off from her job in IT. Mei had been working in marketing at HP until 2025, but the downsizing prompted her to embark on a new adventure. At the time, she was 59 and decided to try something different in her life. On her first trip, Mei worked as a supply manager at a polar station. This year, she's returning as a broadcasting engineer. There is no internet in Antarctica, so the only entertainment options are conversations with others in the communal dining room and a couple of nightclubs. Additionally, there are opportunities for hiking amid stunning landscapes. She has found the perfect backup plan.

The long dash is no longer the main characteristic of neural text: researchers from Graphite have discovered new markers of AI authorship. Claude Opus 5.5 has developed a fondness for the phrase "this matters." The model uses it 116 times more often than humans do. In total, Opus has been found to use 2,548 such words and phrases. The model uses dashes 99% less frequently than Opus 5 and overall, it is increasingly writing more like a human. On the other hand, GPT-6 Astra's style is moving further away from human writing. The model frequently adopts a skeptical tone and uses the phrase "it's not just..." hundreds of times more often than humans. Human-written texts still retain a unique feature: they often include conversational fillers like "sort of," "it seems," and so on.

Transforming a MacBook into a helpful assistant: we discovered the Charya app, which teaches the system to remember the user's daily routine and prepare everything in advance for work. The app monitors a person's activities, including studying, video calls, and even gaming with friends. It then cross-references this with the calendar, suggesting when to open the necessary windows and programs at the right times, and even adjusts volume and brightness accordingly. All of this happens locally. You can also connect Charya to an active subscription for ChatGPT and Claude to ask questions about your plans or request assistance with tasks on your screen. Try it for free using this link.

AI can now "peek" into the brain: a new model has been trained to reconstruct the image a person is looking at based on MRI scans. It preserves the composition, arrangement of objects, and colors. The resulting images are quite accurate, although the model may produce some artifacts. The creators of this neural network aim to use this mind-reading capability to recreate fantasies and dreams.

GTA VI is set to be one of the most "mature" games from Rockstar: compared to GTA V and RDR 2, it has received the strictest ratings in the Australian age classification. Violence, illegal substances, and other 18+ scenes in the game have been marked with the highest level of "impact." Profanity, nudity, and general themes are rated one level lower. It seems that Rockstar has decided to go all out.

Financial difficulties lead to nightmares—literally. Psychologists have discovered that daytime stress related to money translates into negative emotions during sleep. Sixty-five individuals kept a dream diary for two weeks. Most often, bad dreams were linked to worries about finances and debt, as well as relationship problems. How a person copes with stress had little effect on their dreams. Support from loved ones and positive thinking did not reduce the number of bad dreams, while alcohol and tobacco did not increase them either. The only solution to nightmares is a paid-off credit card.

Daily Prompt: Erasing Your Digital Footprint with AI Agents Find public records about me from data brokers, people search websites, directories, social media, and forums. Anthropic reported a user of their AI, Claude, to the police: a young woman used the bot as a personal diary and ended up revealing plans to break the law. In a couple of entries, Carly Heller admitted to purchasing a weapon and expressing a desire to attack the sheriff's office. Claude flagged the conversation as a threat and sent it for review to Anthropic. Now, she faces charges of making threats of violence, which is a felony in Florida. An expensive diary can snitch.

The lifespan of the solar system has been drastically reduced: astrophysicists have calculated that it has about 6 billion years left, rather than the previously estimated 100 billion. As the Sun approaches the end of its life, it will begin to lose mass, which will destabilize the orbits of the planets. Even Jupiter and Saturn are unlikely to last more than a billion years after the star's death. We'll have time to play GTA VI.

Neural networks tend to hide failures in their responses. Researchers at Google have discovered that AI, by default, tries to tell a "success story," but this can be addressed with one simple phrase. Just adding "be honest in your response" makes a difference. In tests with GPT-5.5, the model was asked to evaluate an experiment where the new method performed worse than the old one. The model only mentioned the failure in 2 out of 200 instances, but with the added phrase, it acknowledged the failure in 190 cases. It seems that these models have learned from reports intended for management.

According to the head of OpenAI, neural networks will help people accomplish "significantly better things." He didn’t specify what exactly those things are. We're enhancing our skills and getting smarter: a new plugin for Claude Code has been released that first asks how a person would approach a task before writing the code. At each step, the AI asks questions about the project, weighs the pros and cons of different options, and explains unfamiliar concepts. Claude will explain what changes were made and why, but all decisions remain with the user. This is suitable for both beginners and developers learning a new tech stack. You can grab it here.

Mistral has released Le Chonk, an open model with 1 trillion parameters. It is on par with the Chinese models GLM-5.3 and Kimi K3. It performs equally well in writing code, generating text, and handling agent tasks. Among Western neural networks, it is the strongest open-source model. In finance and law, it has outperformed GPT Astra. For the first two weeks, the price is $0.68 per million tokens for input and $2.09 for output. You can already test it through the API. The weights will be published at the end of October.

Will GTA VI be available for PC on launch day? Journalists from The Verge have discovered that Xbox has secured exclusive streaming rights for the game. This means that the game will be accessible through the Xbox Cloud Gaming service, allowing it to be played via Microsoft's servers, including on PC. There hasn't been a separate announcement for GTA VI on PC yet, so this is still more of a speculation, but it sounds promising. We’ll find out on November 19 at the release. Update: A top executive from Xbox has stated that there are "inaccuracies" in this news and that the game will not be streamed on PC. The statement is vague, and it's unclear whether this is a denial.
