🖊 OPINION | The Battle to Reclaim Our History Marking Tatuy TV’s 19th anniversary, the media collective offers a sharp critique of Venezuela’s current political direction, arguing that the country’s growing dependence on foreign capital and US interests represents a profound break with the principles of sovereignty, socialism and anti-imperialism associated with the Bolivarian project. The editorial also looks back at the role of grassroots struggle and historical memory in the rise of Chávez, arguing that reclaiming that history is essential to rebuilding popular political agency. “Starting over does not mean starting from scratch,” Tatuy TV writes. 📰 NEWS | Venezuela: Maduro’s Defense Urges Court to Uphold Presidential Immunity, Dismiss Charges Nicolás Maduro and Cilia Flores’ defense teams have asked a US federal court to dismiss the criminal charges against them, arguing that head-of-state and diplomatic immunity under international law prevents US courts from exercising criminal jurisdiction over sitting foreign leaders. Maduro denies the allegations against him. Lead defense attorney Barry Pollack also argued that the case is inconsistent with Washington’s recognition of Delcy Rodríguez, whom Maduro appointed as vice president, while refusing to recognize Maduro as Venezuela’s legitimate president. US legal analysts have pointed to the executive branch’s role in determining recognition of foreign governments as a potential obstacle to the immunity claim. Prosecutors have until October 2 to respond. Judge Alvin Hellerstein is scheduled to hold a hearing on November 17, while the trial is currently set for June 2027 if the dismissal request fails. 📰 NEWS | Venezuela’s PDVSA Chief Defends Trump Deal, US Control over Export Revenues PDVSA President Héctor Obregón has defended the Trump administration’s oil agreement as a “win-win relationship,” while becoming the first high-level Caracas official to publicly acknowledge that Venezuelan export revenues are currently deposited in a US Treasury account. The deal will transfer 17 oilfields containing 65 billion barrels of proven reserves to private operator NABEP. Obregón said Venezuela will receive taxes and royalties, while US interests gain access to Venezuelan crude. He described the concessions as lasting 25 years with the possibility of repeated renewals, contrasting with the White House’s claim that they span 100 years. Washington will receive a 35 percent stake in NABEP at no cost and have control over its board, while the State Department can purchase 20 percent of its production at cost and exercise first refusal over the remainder. Obregón argued that routing Venezuelan revenues through the US Treasury could protect them from creditors, but neither government has disclosed how much has been collected or returned to Caracas. The US continues to maintain sanctions on Venezuela’s oil sector while granting licenses to selected foreign corporations. 📰 NEWS | Venezuelan Gov’t Signs Wildlife Conservation Deal with Controversial Indian Group Venezuela has signed a five-year memorandum with India’s Greens Zoological Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre (GZRRC), the operating entity of Vantara, to provide technical assistance, training and technology for the country’s zoos and wildlife conservation centers. The agreement also includes plans for an aquarium, wildlife conservation center, veterinary center and wildlife hospital in La Guaira as part of post-earthquake recovery efforts. Vantara is backed by Reliance Industries and the Ambani family. Despite its stated conservation mission, the initiative has faced allegations from environmental groups concerning wildlife acquisition, trade and its operation as a large-scale private zoo. India’s Supreme Court investigated complaints against Vantara in 2024 before dismissing the case. A joint investigation by Süddeutsche Zeitung and Armando.info reported that more than 5,000 Venezuelan animals had been transferred to Vantara facilities by the end of 2024, including protected species such as the Orinoco crocodile, harpy eagle, jaguar and giant anteater. 📰 NEWS | Venezuela: Oil Output Plateaus, Zionist-linked Colombian Mogul Gets Prime Crude Concession Venezuela’s oil production has largely plateaued since mid-year despite rising global crude prices and a sweeping pro-investor overhaul of the hydrocarbon sector. OPEC reported August output at 1.145 million barrels per day, while PDVSA reported 1.201 million bpd. Since May, production has grown by only 7 percent. Meanwhile, Washington has expanded its control over Venezuela’s oil industry. PDVSA President Héctor Obregón confirmed that crude export revenues are currently deposited in a US Treasury account before US officials decide when and how much is returned to Caracas. The Rodríguez government has also granted long-term concessions to foreign corporate interests. On September 4, Colombian banking magnate Jaime Gilinski received a 25-year concession for the Bare heavy-crude block through his company GeoPark. Once one of the Orinoco Oil Belt’s most productive fields, Bare produced more than 100,000 bpd in 2011. GeoPark has set an 85,000 bpd target and pledged more than $300 million in investment. The Gilinski Group has been implicated in investigations concerning offshore banking and alleged tax evasion, including its appearance in the 2021 Pandora Papers. The family also has longstanding ties to Israel. Speaking in a personal capacity, he argues that communes must defend national institutions while building their own capacity to exercise power from the territories. Hernández also stresses the need for communes to manage resources, develop alternative economic models and demonstrate that “another way of life is possible.” “We must strive to ensure that these 5,400 communal circuits form a network for the defense of the territory.” Hernández states. 📰 NEWS | USDA to Boost Food Exports to Venezuela as Local Campesinos Protest Unfair Competition The US Department of Agriculture has announced a package to expand US agricultural exports to Venezuela through government-backed credit, food assistance and technical training. Washington will reactivate the GSM-102 export guarantee program and lift restrictions allowing foreign banks to back Venezuela-related transactions. The initiative comes as Venezuelan producers protest the impact of imports on national agriculture. On September 9, rice growers from Guárico and nearby states staged a “tractorazo” in Calabozo, blocking a major highway to demand that the government halt imported rice during the domestic harvest and enforce established prices. Producers argue that imports from countries with subsidized agricultural sectors, including the US, create unfair competition. FEDEAGRO reports that more than 2.2 million metric tons of white corn, yellow corn and rice have entered Venezuela in 2026, more than triple the recent combined high recorded in 2023. Rural organizations have also denounced tariff and import-tax exemptions, while rice growers say imported products have saturated storage facilities and forced them to sell below production costs. Producers are demanding state support to offset losses and protect national food production. 📰 NEWS | Trump Allies Secure Venezuela Resource Concessions as ExxonMobil Eyes Return Trump donor Harold Hamm’s Continental Resources has secured a long-term concession to Venezuela’s Ayacucho 2 oil block, an extra-heavy crude field in the Orinoco Oil Belt with an estimated 30 billion barrels of reserves. The block was previously assigned to Chinese firm Anhui Guangda. The deal comes as ExxonMobil reportedly negotiates rights to four major Orinoco fields, including two it previously owned before their nationalization under Hugo Chávez. Florida-based Denarius Holding Group has also secured a 20-year agreement for the Petrokariña project. Venezuela’s mining sector is opening to foreign corporations as well. Heeney Capital and Mercuria received a 30-year concession for the Chocó 10 gold mine and pledged $1 billion in initial investment. 🖊 OPINION | Delcy and Trump: It Is What It Looks Like Activist and commentator Diego Molinas reflects on Delcy Rodríguez’s public encounter with Donald Trump, placing the images in the broader context of Venezuela’s political tradition and the US military intervention described in the piece. 📰 NEWS | Venezuelan Gov’t Promises Electricity Improvements as Blackout Protests Increase Venezuelan Electricity Minister Rolando Alcalá announced plans to add 1,300 MW to the national grid during the final quarter of 2026 as protests over recurring blackouts spread across the country. A 600 MW unit at Planta Centro is expected to come online in the coming days, while seven units totaling 500 MW are planned for Zulia. The government also cited rising demand, high temperatures and delays following the June 24 earthquakes as factors behind the current strain on the system. 🖊 COLUMN | Last One Out, Shut Off the Lights Venezuela’s electricity crisis goes far beyond the country’s current power demand. VA columnist Jessica Dos Santos points to a structural deterioration of the National Electric System, with actual stable generation falling far below nominal installed capacity and transmission and distribution networks deteriorating after years of strain and shortages. As the National Assembly moves to open the electricity sector to private operators, Dos Santos questions whether privatization can resolve these underlying problems or leave Venezuelans paying more for an unreliable service. “Perhaps people will go from having no electricity due to the condition of the power grid to having no electricity because they cannot afford the bill,” she states. 🖊🗞 OPINION | Trump Kidnapped Venezuela’s President. Now Britain Looks to Profit Ana Maria Monjardino and John McEvoy argue that Britain is following Washington’s lead in Venezuela, with Shell and BP securing lucrative energy deals in the aftermath of the US kidnapping of Nicolás Maduro. Their analysis raises a broader question of sovereignty: can agreements made under intense US pressure be considered genuinely autonomous, particularly as Venezuela’s oil sector is opened further to foreign companies? As Venezuelan economist Francisco Rodríguez puts it, “It is hard to see any truly autonomous Venezuelan leaders signing these deals were a gun not pointed at their head.” Read the full opinion piece here 👉🏾 https://venezuelanalysis.com/opinion/trump-kidnapped-venezuelas-president-now-britain-looks-to-profit/ #Oil #Shell #BP #UnitedKingdom
