I was thinking on building the ISO from my M1 on the macOS partition or the Gentoo one I have since its already aarch64 no need for crossbuild

There was actually work do be done on the code side to eliminate your issues. So that should be fixed now and it live on the remote repo. I also have a revised doc with adjusted instructions for when you get the time to test again

Lxde is not dead. This is fake news spread by lxqt groupies and systemD advocates. In fact lxde is alive and kicking. The reason people think is dead is partially because the main devs left the project for the qt environment. Leaving a project does not mean it dies.
