I'll go full disclosure here: I was born in soviet union and lived for 40 years in russia. In 2014 I was in Ukraine and took part in the Revolution of Dignity, I've witnessed everything that happened first hand. Whoever would say that the Revolution was some kind of foreign plot either doesn't know what they are talking about or are consciously lying. It was a wide popular movement, a lot of local people, businesses etc supported the revolution full heartedly out of their strive for freedom and anti-imperial sentiment. I remember old ladies baking pies for people on Maidan, students self-organizing, local traders bringing ovens, firewood etc. If you seriously think they were all bribed by NATO or something, I'm afraid you're beyond salvation. In one respect you are right though. The Revolution of Dignity was indeed a turning point, because russia was used to be the boss in the region and see other post soviet countries as its vassals, so when one of them rebelled, it had to make an example of it. In fact, russian internal propaganda didn't even make a secret of it, the propagandists openly said "who would rise up against russia would end up like Ukraine". That's the actual reason of the aggression, and NATO is not related in any way.
