You can manually drive the Qt event loop, but it generally is discouraged, since Qt then doesn't control when the event loop runs, we can't guarantee that things will operate correctly. However, it is possible.
To do so, just periodically (as often as you can), call QCoreApplication.processEvents() instead of calling qApp.exec()
