Capitalism sells you convenience. Then it charges you rent. Rent on the water. Rent on the air. Rent on the ground. Rent on the road. Rent on your own time. You are not free. You are leased. And the lease has no end date.

PLFS (Periodic Labour Force Survey) covers all 500+ million Indian workers including informal, agricultural, and daily wage workers. ITR data covers only 8.22 crore individuals who filed income tax returns - already the top 6% of the population. This is why PLFS thresholds are much lower: Rs 25,000/month makes you top 10% of all workers, but among ITR filers, you need Rs 31 lakh/year for the same rank.

According to the survey, the share of the salaried class increases as income levels grow. 75.58 percent of people in the income range of less than Rs 5,000 are self-employed. Salaried people account for 21.6 percent of the population. Salaried people account for 41.59 percent of those earning over Rs 1 lakh, while self-employed people account for 43.99 percent. Casual employees account for 31.4 percent of the workforce in the Rs 20,000-50,000 range. Males continue to earn more money than their female counterparts, according to the survey. This phenomena occurs in both urban and rural areas of the country. "In July-September 2019, the average monthly salary of regular salaried/wage earners was Rs 13,912 for rural men and Rs 19,194 for urban males. In the same period, employed ladies in rural India earned an average of Rs 12,090, while females in urban India earned an average of Rs 15,031, according to the report.

Since the cost of living keeps on rising for the services you get, which you had before but now are just wrapped into a capitalist market, people at the bottom suffer the most even for basic necessities, access to which should have been included in their right to live. The pathways which decide the mobility of a person from lower income to higher one are capital, education and connections The people at the bottom have less capital so that's out of our consideration. And since they have less capital the accessibility of quality education becomes rare, as according to this market those who have money have more right on the education compared to those who are born into poor families. Third is connections, this market prioritises "productively" which is basically labour for payment, how much money you can earn becomes a category to judge people, and no one wants to sit or get connected with people who are less productive as it hampers their rep. And their mindset. So the mobility is minimal, here comes reservation, which only favours the top one percent of the categories who get reservations. Basically people who are elites among them. Which gives rise to the debates over increasing these reservations. While reservation is not the solution as it can't think of every person who is under the bottom line. What can be done is 1.) abolition of inherited wealth which will make every individual stand for themselves and 2.) making quality education free and accessible to everyone which will make the mobility more possible for those who are born into the lower class families. These too things will make the society more meritorious than what we have now.
