 ‘Copy Fail’ is a real Linux security crisis wrapped in AI slop Summary The actively exploited defect could affect every mainstream Linux distribution built since 2017, but some researchers found Theori’s AI-generated disclosure unhelpful and lacking.   Quotes Quote Theori, the company that discovered the bug, leaned heavily on AI to find and initially disclose it. The result is a case study that  underscores the challenges that occur when the relentless hunt for defects collides with marketing impulses and inflated AI-generated language that was long on bluster but lacked technical details.  Theori dubbed the high-severity vulnerability “Copy Fail” with a vanity domain containing AI-generated content, and warned that every mainstream Linux kernel built since 2017 is in scope of potential exploitation resulting in root access.  Theori’s AI-powered penetration testing platform, Xint, discovered the local privilege-escalation flaw in a Linux kernel module and reported it to the Linux kernel security team March 23. Major Linux distributions affected by the vulnerability had issued patches prior to Theori’s disclosure, which it published alongside a proof-of-concept exploit.    My thoughts  As Linux is gaining traction currently as Content Creators are sharing their experience moving to some sort of Linux Distro, and others follow suit. We could see more Hackers using AI to possibly Expose the Open-source community even more.  AMD confirms FSR 4.1 Upscaling for Radeon RX 7000 series   Quotes Quote According to Jack Huynh, AMD Senior Vice President and General Manager of Computing and Graphics, RDNA 3 players will receive FSR Upscaling 4.1 support this July. This means Radeon RX 7000 series owners will get access to AMD’s newer ML-based upscaling path without moving to Radeon RX 9000 hardware. Huynh says the update will be ready out of the box for Radeon 7000 series users in more than 300 supported games at launch. The FSR4 version for RX 7000 series has been specifically developed for 1st Gen AI Accelerator using INT8 instructions, just as we saw in the 2025 leak. AMD also plans to bring FSR Upscaling 4.1 to RDNA 2 GPUs. Huynh says support for RDNA 2 players is coming in early 2027.  Bitlocker "defeated" for Windows 11 If you are managing computers and rely on bitlocker to protect the data on a work laptop and don't use a PIN to unlock the bitlocker protection is now effectively nothing more than an unlocked door to your house. The exploit, dubbed YellowKey, needs only physical access to the device and a USB stick. No recovery key. No password. No expensive hardware.   While I tend to believe in the whole idea that "don't attribute to malice what can be explained by incompetence"...it really is pretty hard to believe that for something like BitLocker, a product that is supposed to be protecting the drive, somehow had code left behind in the recovery environment that allows for any attacker to easily gain access to the encrypted drive.   Nightmare-Eclipse is claiming as well that using a PIN, while it protects from the current attack, that he has found a way around needing a PIN to decrypt as well.  The whole story of Nightmare-Eclipse though is interesting, where he's released a few zero-days now and claims to hold a grudge against MS.  Given though that he has shown just how dangerous the exploits he is releasing are, I'm really wondering if this is either a state sponsored/group of people, or someone internal at MS that might have had hands on the source.  Either way though, Nightmare-Eclipse has claimed it's a backdoor and you know I sort of agree that it looks like one (or it's very very irresponsible of MS to not have vetted a key par

 Sony’s PlayStation PC Departure Is The Right Move For Them, Not Players Summary Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Herman Hulst has reportedly sent out a message to the PlayStation crew that a decision had been made: first-party, single-player PlayStation games will no longer be heading to PC, whether that be on a weeks, months or years-long delay.   Quotes Quote Sony started this experiment in earnest in 2020 when it ported Horizon Zero Dawn to PC, over three years after its initial release. That spread to other big titles over time, including God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, The Last of Us Part I and II, Uncharted Legacy of Thieves, Ghost of Tsushima, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, God of War Ragnarok and more. The games did decently enough, but were hardly monster releases on PC. The idea here is that Sony has not tapped into a large enough market to outweigh the potential dilution of its brand, and that its argument for continuing to sell PlayStation hardware is weakening. It has become increasingly difficult to convince players to buy video game hardware over the last year or two especially amid dramatic price hikes driven by global economic conditions, tariffs, and component shortages and costs, mainly due to AI. A PS5 Pro now costs a full $900.    My thoughts I Feel news of Valve's Steam Machine coming out has pushed this decision for Sony to no longer provide PC Ports of their games. Valve's Steam was the main source of PlayStation games being available a year or months after it was release on PlayStation.  Now that Valve is going to be a console competitor, I feel their decision's may have just wrecked it for PC gamers and now being forced to purchase a PlayStation if they want to play the new Spider-Man game or better yet the new Wolverine set to come out this year.  I feel if Valve wasn't coming out with their own console Sony would probably still provide PC ports of their games.   Sources  ht

 Intel rumored to release Xe3P datacenter GPU with 160GB of LPDDR5X Summary Leaked PCB of the Xe3P datacenter GPU with 20 LPDDR5X sites. Quotes Quote Crescent Island is Intel’s next data-center GPU for AI inference, not a consumer Arc graphics card. Intel confirmed the product in October with Xe3P graphics architecture, 160GB of LPDDR5X memory and support for data types used by inference workloads. The leaked PCB reportedly has 20 LPDDR5X memory sites, with 12 on the front and 8 on the back of the board. If populated with 8GB packages, this would match Intel’s confirmed 160GB capacity. This also shows Intel using LPDDR5X rather than HBM, which should reduce board cost and avoid some supply... My thoughts With the reported configuration this comes out at 640 bit bus with 680 GB/s bandwidth at 160GB Capacity per chip [GB] LPDDR5X CHIPS Max RAM Speed (MT/s) Bus per chip Bus Width [bit] Bandwidth per chip [GB/s] Bandwidth [GB/s] Size [GB] 8 20 8500 32 640 34 680 160 16 20 8500 32 640 34 680 320   Micron does list 128Gb (16GB) LPDDR5X chips that push the capacity up to 320GB   This rumored Intel board, more than a GPU, does resemble a server CPU, that uses much, much faster ram, here a comparison with a 12 channel EPYC server CPU. The intel board uses an equivalent of 10 DIMM channels, with much faster LPDDR5X modules. It's still a lot slower than HBM or GDDR would be, but it's comparable with a mid tier consumer GPU. It's basically a mid way point between a server CPU and a GPU, should have 1/2 to 1/4 the bandwidth of a datacenter accelerator with 1/2 to
l packaging, they could do weird things with tiles and split the memory bus up on chiplets with interconnect between them, so it's not going to be easy to estimate from that.   From power should be easier. This is rumored pcb gas a single 16 pin for 600W delivery. An Arc B390 has 12 Xe3LPG cores for 80W. Discounting the many differences Xe3P would have, just to get an estimate, this could have in the ballpark of 600/80*12=90 Xe3P cores. Could be a 6.5X jump. For reference Nvidia 5060 (3,840 CUDA) to 5090 (21,760 CUDA) is a 5.6X jump.   It's a really interesting rumored product.   There are many things we don't know that impact viability. Cost, compute, memory configuration and software stack (Intel is behind Nvidia's CUDA, but ahead of AMD's ROCm).   Using DDR does push the memory bus to really incredible sizes for an add in PCI-E card. In terms of €/GB it should be incredibly compelling.   This is clearly an LLM inference card thanks to it's potentially huge VRAM. Assuming it could get to 320 GB, this card should be able to run 300B class LLMs without offloading anything off it's VRAM, but what speed it can get is unknown.  Github hacked... Summary   GitHub confirmed a security incident involving a poisoned VS Code extension that led to unauthorized access to around 3,800 internal repositories. So far, there is no indication that customer repositories or external user data were affected.   Quotes Quote „Yesterday we detected and contained a compromise of an employee device involving a poisoned VS Code extension”.   Quote „The attacker’s current claims of ~3,800 repositories are directionally consistent with our investigation so far”.   My thoughts   This is a strong reminder that supply chain attacks can have serious consequences even when the initial vector looks small. What stands out here is that a single compromised developer tool was enough to open a path into internal company resources. Incidents like this will likely push organizations to tighten extension approval, endpoint monitoring, and developer workstation controls. Also... It sucks.  Unpatched UniFi Devices under attack Summary Per multiple users on reddit, Unifi devices not patched for the Security Advisory earlier this week had a Super Admin added within the last 12 hours with more users chiming in as regions wake up. And what sensitive information is in the backups.   My thoughts It just goes to show how quickly a CVE goes from being announced as patched to being exploited. I actually would have likely been an attacked user myself had I not noticed the notification about the automatic update having failed. This is a developing situation so I'm sure there'll be updates about what specifically is stolen via backups along with other details over the next couple days. ort-lived and didn’t even qualify for Copilot+.   Then, in 2024, we got “Copilot+ PCs.”   Now it’s all about Jensen PCs, and who in this day and age can afford to say “no” to Jensen Huang? Not Microsoft, and not every other PC OEM that jumped on board this initiative. But do regular people even care about the chip or about self-hosting their AI when shopping for a laptop?   As a side note, earlier this decade I was here begging people to consider that the mini-LED vs. IT-grade OLED debate wasn’t as clear-cut as some people thought. Some believed I was just blindly defending Apple’s choice to use mini-LEDs in the 2021 MBPs. Now, in the year of our Lord 2026, the apex predator of the new breed of Windows + Jensen PCs, the Surface Ultra, will sport a mini-LED display. Around the same time, MacBook Pros (or probably the MacBook “Ultra”) will move to tandem OLEDs. Funny, huh?   And at this point, I won’t even mention the other hot debate from the old days around here: soldered RAM vs. user-upgradable RAM. That would be like beating a long-dead horse.  Arch Linux AUR Compromised - 400+ Packages Infected with Malware Summary The Arch Linux User Repository "AUR" was hit by a large-scale malware campaign this week with more than 400 of these user-supplied packages being compromised. To be completely clear, this just is affecting AUR packages and not the official Arch Linux packages. The attack is also seemingly ongoing, with more packages being discovered by the hour. EDIT: It seems that a partially complete list of compromised packages can be found here: https://md.archlinux.org/s/SxbqukK6IA It appears that a CachyOS maintainer has made a very basic checker script (in addition to our attempts elsewhere in this thread) to give your system a cursory check for affected packages.  This github is also linked in the thread, which has done their best to combine community efforts and provide tooling to check your system. As always please read through and make sure you understand any scripts you're running on your system.  Samsung wants your health data for AI, if you don't give... Summary In the time of glorified copy-paste machine mania, Samsung has decided to start holding your health data as hostage. Some Samsung Health users have been greeted with a screen that gives them two options: Either they give their health data to Samsung to use to train their Artificial Idiocy and when you don't want to do that anymore, Samsung Health warns that it stops synchronizing data between the app and the server and all the data on the server will be destroyed. Samsung Health sync loosing also means that the app becomes more of a activity track holder than health app because (surprise, surprise) all the data processing is done on the servers (to which you cannot get your data unless you let it to be used to train Artificial Idiocy).   Quote Samsung Health users are seeing a notice upon opening the app titled "Consent to the Use of Health Data for AI Training and Modelling." The notice clearly states that Samsung will use health data, including activity, health records, medication, and menstrual cycles, to inform its AI models, sometimes with "human review." It comes with a new toggle in the settings, and while you can opt-out, doing so pops up a warning that you will "not be able to sync health data" with your Samsung account and that it will be deleted unless the law requires otherwise.   This is kind of big considering there's going to be a "big reveal" of new Galaxy Watches with Artificial Idiocy based health tracking on the Galaxy Unfolded 22nd of July.  PC gamer "develops" game cartridges for steam games     Summary A pc gamer had managed to create functional game cartridges for steam games. Auto-starting the game right away is also possible.”    My thoughts Given the current situation with physical media disappearing and gamers/users relying on the goodwill of companies, with little to no legal protection, to keep the media they purchased accessible, I find this little nugget very interesting as a potential way forward.  Data centers are a small factor in rising electricity rates. Summary The Electric Power Research Institute has found that rising data center demand has decreased electricity costs between 2019 and 2024. While the recent jump in demand has complicated the situation, correct state policy can negate the ill effects on consumers.   Quotes Quote from 2019 to 2024 the average residential customer lived in a state where data center capacity grew 160%, which caused their rates to fall by 6%   Quote it is clear that states that maintained relatively lower average prices saw more data center capacity additions compared to states with large nominal price increases. My thoughts It appears that the increase in electricity demand incentivizes operators to build out more capacity. That additional capacity is created to meet current and future demand. Since that additional capacity exists in the interim, high-load periods don't have to use more expensive forms of electricity generation, and rates fall accordingly. If this cycle perpetuates, as it has been over the last few years, electricity rates should continue to fall. However, short term effects do complicate the matter, since the demand has surged to such a level that suppliers can't respond quick enough, and are forced to increase rates. This can be solved by forcing data centers to pay for long-term electricity contracts and increased buildout expenses, as long as regulators don't stall or complicate their efforts for environmental reasons, which they have in states like California and New York. Also, many of the electricity hikes are in response to environmental policies such as those implemented in California, a state which saw below average data center build-out in the period stated.
