Qt for Python (PySide/Shiboken)

Install, will always install things into your site-packages. The changes now are due to the cross compilation step, which modified the build directory structure. You might want to read the changelog for more info

PySide6 -> Qt6, PySide2 ->Qt5, so PySide6 follow EOL dates for Qt6, not Qt5. It's the first time I see that website, and I have no idea if those dates are official or accurate. Also, I think it's important to make a difference between having the source code or having binaries. The 5.15.x source code is been released according to the KDE Free Qt Foundation, we recently published the 5.15.3 source files in https://download.qt.io/official_releases/QtForPython/pyside2/PySide2-5.15.3-src/ for example. The same will happens with all the future versions (so far 5.15.9 is available for commercial users). If you are considering 'wheels', then yeah, 5.15 will not get any other new OSS wheels, and the moment Qt stop publishing versions, wheels will stop as well.

e.g. 5.15.3 was made public late 2021 (like mentioned via the KDE Free Qt License Agreement): https://lists.qt-project.org/pipermail/development/2022-March/042262.html - but https://pypi.org/project/PyQt5-Qt5/ is still at 5.15.2

but if your distribution (or you) build Qt from source, you can use a newer public Qt 5.15 with the current PySide2/PyQt5 without any changes required there

the package_for_wheels it's only a copy of the 'package' directory in each internal-build step. nothing else

the package directory needs to be empty, it's not intended to be used as installation.

that's really strange, but in any case it's not related to the 'package_for_wheels', that only 'copy' some content from the 'package' directory.

we totally missed that because we often use 'skip-packaging' (even on the CI) mainly to be used with the build/bdist_wheel process. Thanks for finding it
