but since we are working on Qt 6 already, we are using dev for that
so that's why we advise to merge on 5.15 for fixes and small doc features or examples

Guys, I have a QHBoxLayout with 3 widgets, I wanted to resize the 2 last widgets when I resize one, but I tried to use resize and didn't work

Should those be resizable by the user? If so, you might want to use a QSplitter instead?

ah, I see - the point of a QHBoxLayout (or any layout) is that it manages your widget's sizes, so I don't think this will work

what you'd probably need to do is to give the widget a custom sizeHint method (and perhaps also use self.setSizePolicy accordingly) so that the widget tells the layout "I want exactly as much space as the icons take, not more" if it's collapsed
If you want to collapse stuff like this I'd always put things in a separate widget that I can show/hide
the parent layout would handle resizing then

You could also try .setMaximumWidth() to the toolbox

I have it on a menu, because I was just playing around 😆but it would make more sense to have it with a button on the same left side.
but I just added that part on the github repo if you want to use it

well, when I have an idea I write a prototype 😆but yeah...never really finish it. I have so many other private repos
that was one of them, but just made it public, since I guess it could be useful for you and others here
I have another one, more like a drawer widget, but for that I'm writing a tutorial for PySide
so hopefully it will be finished soon

the trick was to create that PushButton floating and moving it on 0,0

and then the other widget that uses the menu is over the background widget
it's just related to "layouts"
so let's replace "floating" for "layout-less"
if you move a widget to a position where another widget is located, it will appear "on top of it"

so that's what is happening with the side menu

ok. I was using a GridLayout , arranged it in Designer side by side and then in code removed the layouts and added them back to the same grid area
