I found to drastic to do a fatal error if you try to connect to something that's not decorated as Slot
also, many people do inline lambda functions as slots
C
that would break it completely
@cmaureir How bindings.xml detect Qt Version in: <object-type name="QMessageLogContext" since="5.14"/> How```since="5.14``` works?
I mean, do I need to define some env variables for set Qt Verison?
.
I think, that this is main goal of my problems
Looks. like I include QMessageLogContext twice
.
But I include only typesystem_core_common.xml: <load-typesystem name="typesystem_core_common.xml" generate="no"/>
C
you can try to ignore it in your typesystem if you are not using is
From other sied, typesystem_core_common.xml has twice definition of QMessageLogContext with different Qt versions: <object-type name="QMessageLogContext" since="5.14"/> <object-type name="QMessageLogContext" since="5.9" until="5.13.2"> <modify-function signature="copy(const QMessageLogContext &)" remove="all"/> </object-type> Therefore, I think, that my qt version is not defined and I included QMessageLogContext twice
.
Cristián 🥑did you also declared it in your local typesystem?
No. My bindings.xml is: <typesystem package="DaggyPy"> <load-typesystem name="typesystem_core_common.xml" generate="no"/> <namespace-type name="daggycore"> <value-type name="Command"> <enum-type name="State"/> <value-type name="Stream"> <enum-type name="Type"/> </value-type> </value-type> <container-type name="Commands" type="map"/> </namespace-type> </typesystem>
it's really strange, since we use it like that to compile the project, and we don't have that error
C
also in the separate bindings
C
maybe is better for you to share the full log of the build until that error on the issue you created
C
python setup.py ......... &> LOG.txt, then upload that to the issue
I understand that, but we need to discover where does it fail to detect the version
out of curiosity, what's the motivation of using Qt from conan? I don't have a preference, but the common scenario is that people usually build Qt by themselves, use the Qt installer to get a specific version, or use the one provided in their systems.
C
Do you have other conan based projects you are using?

The main goals of using conan - dependecy management for C++. Qt is not once library, that I used. Also, I use libssh2 amd libyaml. Also, I can choose which Qt modules and component I need. By the one code line I can choose static or shared Qt compilation, that will depends from other options, for example.
And by one line code I build Qt with Clang and gcc

I'd go with "don't use a thread, use QNetworkAccessManager" this time (though the answer isn't as clear as with QTimer, since requests is easier to use than QNAM)
I'm confused( i deleted all my previous posts to ask in a clean new post). Does threading by creating a Qobject and moving it to a QThread create an event loop?(which does not return therefore the finished signal is not emitted) while subclassing QThread and reimplementing the run method causes the run method to return once it is done executing so finished signal is emitted?
I
As it says in the Qt documentation, it is not a bad practice to subclass QThread when we want a single call of the thread.
(sidenote, you can also use: the `finished` signal for inline code)
I
Qt for python really lacks documentation, most are written in C/C++ which for a beginner like me might be difficult to understand

AFAIK that's why you are using PyQt5 and all the tutorials out there, right? I guess you are mostly cover on that front :P It's almost impossible to make beginner friendly tutorials to cover every single use case. Now it's QThread, tomorrow, for another user is QtSerialPort, maybe someone else want some tutorial on Creating custom widgets, etc, etc, etc. That's why all the tutorials out there you use for PyQt5, are written by the community. That's why, I encourage you to write tutorials of things you learn, otherwise, the same story repeats over and over.
C
I'd really really love on tutorials 24/7 but I cannot, otherwise we will not have Qt6 nor fix any current bug :(
C
we are in a situation, where we need to keep compatibility, otherwise people will complain *a lot*
